JALI FILM WEEKENDER 2025
The inaugural edition of Jali Film Weekender ran between 30 October - 2 November 2025 as a brand new film festival celebrating Black, African and diaspora stories, launched by Jali Collective.
The theme of the 2025 Weekender was Dreams and Apparitions, carefully woven through a programme of films, events and extended realities. We invited audiences to join us on an evocative journey that explored grief, memory, imagination, new and alternate futures, and the seen and unseen in the African and diasporic experience.
Across four days, we shared a vibrant programme of narrative, documentary, animation, experimental and short film, each offered a distinct vision from the African continent and diaspora. Our programme began on the screen, and continued through filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, gatherings and workshops. The Extended Reality (XR) Exhibitionbrought two immersive works by Kenyan artists to Filmhouse – Enkang’ Ang’ and ARGO – both explored nature and heritage through virtual and augmented reality.
