Spotlight: Geração 80 is a programme of film screenings dedicated to the acclaimed Angolan collective Geração 80, presented as part of the 2026 Jali Film Weekender.

The project supports the co-development and delivery of three public screening events, featuring a selection of works from Geração 80’s filmography and providing UK audiences with a rare opportunity to engage with contemporary film and moving image practices emerging from Angola. The programme includes the UK Premiere of Hugo Salvaterra’s My Semba, alongside retrospective screenings of Ery Claver’s feature film Our Lady of the Chinese Shop, as well as his short film Lucia in the Sky with Traffic Lights, which will screen alongside Fradique’s Air Conditioner.

We will be joined by the collective in Edinburgh during the festival for post-screening Q&As, a masterclass and other events.
