2025 EXTENDED REALITY EXHIBITION
Running between 30 October - 2 November, the inaugural Jali Film Weekender was a brand new film festival celebrating Black, African and diaspora stories, launched by Jali Collective.
Alongside film screenings and events, the inaugural edition showcased a special Extended Reality (XR) Exhibition. The exhibition was supported by the British Council and The Africa Centre as part of the UK/Kenya Season, a cultural programme celebrating creativity and innovation in both countries.
The exhibition was open daily during the festival and was free to access.
The 2025 XR Exhibition brought the first Scottish presentation of two immersive works by Kenyan artists to Filmhouse - Enkang’ Ang’ and ARGO - both explored nature and heritage through virtual and augmented reality. Although distinct in execution, both works were thematically intertwined exploring nature, preservation, climate change and sustainability. Engaging with the works offered a shared question to audiences: how can expanded reality help us navigate, reflect and act in our natural world?
