Jali Film Weekender 2025 will open with Memory of Princess Mumbi, Swiss-Kenyan director Damien Hauser’s groundbreaking new afro-futurist film fresh from its World Premiere at Venice Film Festival. In 2093, filmmaker Kuve travels to Umata to document the aftermath of a war that revived ancient kingdoms. There, he meets Mumbi, who challenges him to make his film without the use of AI. As Kuve searches for his own voice, he begins to realise that even in a broken world, beauty can be found in the small human moments we often overlook.

In the whimsical pan-African nation of Alkebulan, a brilliant scholar plots revenge after discovering her fiancé's engagement to another woman.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with actress Luisa Wolf, one of the stars of Memory of Princess Mumbi.

Luisa Wolf
Luisa Wolf is a Swiss actress known for her work on stage and in front of and behind the camera. She appeared in Swiss productions such as The Golden Years and Buried Truth (Netflix), and won the Swiss Diversity Award with the theatre piece Who’s Afraid of the White Man.
She first met director Damien Hauser when he directed her debut short film in 2021, which went on to win two awards. Since then, they have been friends and collaborators. Luisa is honoured to represent his film Memory of Princess Mumbi at the Jail Film Weekender in his absence.
