In the village of Manjacaze, Mozambique, Pastor Hélder struggles with a fading faith. His small congregation dwindles, his sermons fail to inspire, and his wife Helena’s prayers for a child go unanswered.
Desperate for meaning and success, Hélder turns to a Sangoma, a traditional healer who connects him to spirits promising power and miracles. At first, things seem to work, Hélder’s congregation grows and people hail him as a prophet. But his newfound powers come with a darker cost: the spirits begin to demand human sacrifices.
Haunted by guilt and trapped by his own choices, Hélder must confront his inner demons and the limits of faith, redemption and truth. Told through the voice of Ernesto, a dead man turned ancestor, The Prophet (O Profeta), is a haunting and poetic meditation on belief, guilt and spiritual transformation.
